My name is Matthew and I am a Counseling and Expressive Arts Therapy student intern from the California Institute of Integral Studies. I believe that every human being has the capacity for healing, for creativity, and for finding creative ways to heal. In our work together I am committed to helping you affirm and tap into your inherent wisdom, resources, and strengths.
In my work I draw on a variety of approaches, including Narrative, Humanistic, Person-Centered, Mindfulness, Recovery, and Liberation based approaches. As a training Expressive Arts Therapist, my offerings in our work together can integrate activities from many different creative therapies: drama, dance/movement, music, visual art, writing, play and improvisation. Sometimes talk-based therapy can be just what we need to heal. Sometimes arts-based activities can provide new ways of understanding ourselves and processing our problems that lead us to the solutions and healing we are looking for. I’m committed to exploring and finding approaches that work best for you at the pace that feels safe and supportive for you.
I work with a variety of clients of different backgrounds / experiences. I am committed to practicing cultural humility; I regard you as the expert on your life and experiences. I am passionate about working with youth. I have particular interest in working with men who want support exploring how masculine socialization relates to their problems, and cultivating healthier masculinity to heal themselves, their interpersonal relationships, and systems of gender-based oppression in their communities.
In my free time, I like to play, create, and listen to music, watch trees dance in the wind, snuggle with my dog Borzi, road trip with my partner, and connect and spend time with friends.
