About Me:
Hi! I’m JJ, a Limited License Master’s Social Worker (LLMSW) who is deeply interested in how people make meaning of their experiences, especially the hard, messy, in-between parts that don’t always have clear answers. I believe healing is nonlinear, and growth often comes from slowing down, processing, and reconnecting with yourself in a more honest way.
As a queer therapist, I’m passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ youth and young adults navigating identity, relationships, and the pressure of figuring things out in a world that doesn’t always feel affirming. I’ve also supported individuals and couples dealing with anxiety, depression, and trauma, and I’m often drawn to people who feel stuck, disconnected, or uncertain about what comes next in life.
I also aim to intentionally create a practice that is sex-positive, anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and affirming of identity exploration, seeing these values as central to meaningful healing. Outside of therapy, I value creativity, music, and spaces where people can show up authentically. On weekends, you might find me climbing, making pottery, or dancing to Detroit techno.
Our Work Together:
Starting therapy can feel vulnerable. My goal is to create a space where you don’t have to filter or perform, where you can be honest about what’s happening even when it’s heavy, confusing, or hard to put into words.
My style is collaborative and engaged. I’ll meet you where you are while offering gentle challenge and honest reflection when helpful. Together, we’ll explore patterns, build self-awareness, and develop practices of self-compassion that feel realistic and sustainable for you.
Approach:
My approach is flexible and tailored to your needs, as you are the expert in your own experience. I mainly draw from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), attachment theory, mindfulness, and somatic techniques.
I hold space for the full range of experience, including grief, anger, confusion, humor, relief, and moments of joy. I believe all of these parts have a place in the process, and meaningful change often happens in those human, in-between moments.
